Credit Crunch Empty Credit Crunch

Post by Lou Wed Dec 17, 2008 5:53 am

FED-UP Coronation Street stars have been hit by the credit MUNCH — after bosses scrapped their free food and drink during filming.

After this Friday, there will no longer be a catering van on set dishing out tea and bacon butties to cast and crew.

Instead, actors such as Tupele Dorgu and Helen Flanagan — who play Kelly Crabtree and Rosie Webster — will have to go to Granada TV’s busy canteen and queue to buy their own.

Some stars are so livid at the cutback — the latest in a string by credit crunch-hit ITV — that they are threatening a work to rule which could disrupt their tight filming schedules at the Manchester studios.

A source said: “The whole cast are up in arms — they’re absolutely furious.
Warm

“Filming on Corrie isn’t easy. It’s long hours and the actors spend a lot of time outdoors.

“Having the van meant they could eat between takes and warm up with a cup of tea.

“They have always considered the butty wagon was part of their employment package.”

The Sun told earlier this month how bosses had axed the Corrie Christmas party — forcing cast and crew to fork out for their own booze-up.

The source added: “Having the party cancelled was deeply resented, but taking away the food facility is far worse.

“It makes people feel they’re being singled out for cuts which won’t save much money in the grand scheme of things.”

The source added: “Some stars have hinted they’ll take regular, time-consuming food and drink breaks. This would throw schedules into chaos.”

A cast member told The Sun: “What a way to wish us Merry Christmas.”

Things must be getting bad. I know Granada have been hit by poor advertising sales in the last few years, so it makes you wonder how much longer they can keep going, or if they'll have to make major cutbacks.

We're supposed to feel sorry for highly paid soap starts because they have to buy their own lunch from now on??! Most people take that for granted and they only earn a fraction of what these prima donnas are making. Evil or Very Mad

I agree, it's a bit cheeky isn't it? Expecting them to queue up at the canteen with the peasants? Laughing
