A couple have become the first in the UK to have a baby using a pioneering IVF technique which fast-freezes embryos, doctors in Cardiff say.

Evie, who was conceived through "vitrification", was born to Ian and Rebecca Bloomer on 23 July.

The method uses liquid nitrogen to freeze embryos quickly, reducing the risk of damage when they are thawed.

While I think its nice for the couple to have the child they always wanted, I do wonder where medical science is going to stop. The world is gradually being over populated and medical science is (as in this case) helping people have children who wouldnt have 100 years ago, and helping people live longer and survive with illnesses that would have killed them previously.

The earth really cannot sustain the population growth, animals are being moved from their habitats by development, forests are cut down, fossil fuels are gradually running out.

So while its lovely for the individual its not good for life in general.

It's an ill-divided world. Thousands of babies aborted every year in the UK while other people are going to these lengths to have one. Sad

I don't know if it's right though to tell people like this not to try. It seems unfair when other people are terrible parents and pop out a kiddy every year.

I know what you mean, especially when you read things like this

A toddler whose remains were found inside a suitcase was starved to death by religious cult members - including his mother - because he refused to say 'amen' after meals, police said today.

Ria Ramkissoon and three other members of the group have been charged with the first-degree murder of her son Javon Thompson, whose body was found in April.

U.S. police and the family of Ramkissoon say that the group, based in Baltimore and called 1 Mind Ministries, is a cult.

Javon's food was stopped in December 2006 - when he was about 15 months old - partly because he refused to say 'amen' after dinner, investigators were told by two children who had been taken away from the cult by Philadelphia police.

Members viewed Javon as 'a demon', the children said.

No medical care was sought for the toddler when he stopped breathing, and he died in his mother's arms, according to court records of police interviews with the two children and another informant.
