Royal Mail suspend deliverys in dog attack street
Royal Mail bosses have defended a decision to suspend deliveries to a Bradford street after a postman was attacked by a dog.
The delivery ban started after an incident involving a bull mastif on Penfield Grove, Bradford.
The postman was not thought to have been bitten by the animal but had to jump over a fence.
Residents claim they have to travel six miles to collect their mail. Royal Mail said the acion was a "last resort".
Residents have received letters informing them of the action.
But David Crawford, 59, said: "The Royal Mail is punishing a whole street. It's just not on."
A Royal Mail spokeswoman said: "We take the health and safety of our staff extremely seriously and would only consider taking this course of action as a last resort.
"We continue to work with the dog owner to resolve this situation and will resume deliveries as soon as the dog is secured and is no longer a danger to our staff.
"We apologise to customers affected in the meantime. We would suggest that customers needing to discuss collection of their mail should contact the delivery office manager."
I dont blame the Royal Mail. People should be made to look after their dogs, and if the only way they'll do that is by pressure from their neighbours then so be it.

I agree Lou. People should be able to make deliveries to properties without having to jump over fences to escape dogs. Although it's surprising how many people ignore "Beware of the Dog" signs and just open gates without thinking. We used to have an Alsation and even though we had 6 foot gates and a sign up, people would still try to open them, even though there was easy access to our front door.

I'm sorry for the postie but I'm also sorry for the innocent residents who aren't getting their post any more (and I wonder if everyone who writes to them will get the cost of their stamp back ). IMO, it's up to the Royal Mail to sort it out, not the dog owner's neighbours. They should get the police involved, then go back to providing the service they're being paid for.
