Shootings
I can't believe what's happened in West Cumbria. We were up there today and went through just about the time it was happening, but obviously didn't know anything about it. Its awful to think that you can just go out to do your shopping and never come back.
RIP to all those who died.

Re: Shootings
I know this part of the country really well, and today's events have been truly shocking. How awful for all those involved. My thoughts are with the families of those who have died.

Re: Shootings
It brought back some sad memories for me. I was brought up near Hungerford and can still vividly remember the same thing happening there all those years ago. I knew some of the people who were shot and it is something that a community never completely gets over.
I can't imagine what went through the guy's head to even contemplate doing what he did........

Re: Shootings
I feel so sorry for this man's mother. Her sons were born on the same day and one shot the other and himself, and so they both died on the same day. How awful.

Re: Shootings
It's appalling, how disturbed was this man to simply take potshots at people he didn't even know? I'm so sorry for his family and for the families of the dead and injured.
As Bob says, echoes of Hungerford and also Dunblane.

Re: Shootings
I think it's awful that the papers are printing pictures of his sons. Their lives have been destroyed as well, and one of them is only 16. It's bad enough their father did what he did, without the papers splashing their pictures around.
Gosh Bob, I can't imagine knowing someone who was shot. Such an awful thing to happen.

I could hardly believe it when I saw the news. Lou, do you live anywhere near Whitehaven or Seascale? How terrifying to have this on your doorstep.

Re: Shootings
Luckily we're not too close, the nearest he came was about 30 mins away. But that day we were up in Maryport which is close by, and we were actually going through Whitehaven at the time of the shooting (but obviously didn't know it was happening).
Re: Shootings
You could so easily have been caught up in this, Lou. Your guardian angel must be working hard.
I watched the memorial service on the news, so sad. A lot of the faces just looked stunned.

Re: Shootings
I know Sally, it's awful to think he was just a mile away. I'm so glad I didn't know about it until I got home.
