Tony and the abuse storyline Empty Tony and the abuse storyline

I must admit after the first couple of days of this storyline my reaction is not a positive one. Eastenders again have rushed at a story like a bull in a china shop, not an ounce of subtlety, just straight in with wham bam Tony's a paedo Rolling Eyes The again yesterday with the ever so unsubtle looks between Tony and Whitney, yes we get it, unfortunately the rest of the house are too stupid to notice, and too deaf to hear a full blown conversation going on not 2 feet away No

I really hoped they'd learned their lesson with the Stella story, where they rushed in and immediately Stella started abusing Ben, and quick as you like the storyline was finished. Unfortunately the only storyline where that they havent rushed is the Stax, were they went from one extreme to the other and drew it out so long that people started turning off and were bored rigid by yet another Max and Stacey scene in the nearest toilet.

I think it would have been far better to have Tony return and settle into the house first, perhaps with a few sly meetings away from the house, because after all as Lou mentioned in another thread, would it not be a bit suspicions that Whitney has her door locked with strange noises coming from within, and the only other person missing is Tony Shocked Surely even the ever dumb Bianca would suss something was wrong then!

TBQH this in your face writing, leaving no room for people's own imagination bores me, and I am now just thinking, get the storyline over and done with and move on. I dont like the writers treating me like a child who has to have everything spelled out for me, I want subtlety as well as controversial plot lines.

There you go rant over Laughing

I find it very puzzling that nobody else is noticing anything wrong. We all know Bianca's supposed to be fick, almost as fick as Ricky, but the house holds too many people for nobody to have noticed Whitney and Tony disappearing at the same time. And I'm still very disturbed at the lack of loyalty Whitney's showing Bianca. So far, she's been very astute about Bianca's feelings, even calling her out when she put her pride in front of the kids wellbeing. And Whitney was also aware of Bianca's lack of confidence about whether Tony would still fancy her, so it doesn't seem right that she's suddenly forgotten all those girly chats with Bianca and is betraying her like this.

Yeah I could understand Whitney being drawn in because of Tonys advances, but especially after having a year apart from him, and relying purely on Bianca, you'd think her sense of loyalty would kick in, even if her sense of whats right and whats wrong sexually didnt.

He was inside for GBH, he beat up a kid that was supposedly harassing Whitney.

But now we know what sort of person he's like I reckon it could have just been a boy who fancied Whitney and Tony got jealous. After all it must have been a fair beating for it to be GBH, because just punching someone a couple of times would be ABH.

That would actually be a little better (in a ewww sort of way Suspect ) Because then people would see how a paedophile grooms the children. Whereas at the moment some people are calling it an affair Shocked and I think its giving off the wrong signals, that if the child is willing 'well its ok then' kinda thing.

It might also show less 'streetwise' parents out there that even the most charming person has the potential to harm their children, its not something that dirty old men in flasher macs do. I also think that if he moved onto say Lauren or Abi, then it would show its not something that affects the lower class, its a problem that spans the classes.

The more I think about it, the more I feel Eastenders have gone about the paedophile storyline the wrong way.

Rather than having Whitney all gung ho and 'lets move away together', I think if they really wanted to show paedophilia as it is, then they could have made Whitney detest what was happening but be too scared to say anything, to have no one to turn to.

Of course that would have meant Whitney would have to have been a completely different person right from the start, but the writers must have had this storyline in mind long before the Jacksons reappeared.

Lou that's a very good point. We know that Tony is lying to Whitney but she is still a willing participant, whereas most of these cases involves the abuser using fear to get his victim to do what he wants. This storyline, sickening as it is, involves a young girl who thinks she's in love with this paedophile. It's actually a paedo's dream, isn't it? They defend themselves by saying they really love children although their definition of love isn't normal. Evil or Very Mad
