Jon Venables
Does anyone have any ideas about why he's behind bars?

Re: Jon Venables
I heard he'd got into a fight with a workmate, apparently he has anger management issues. I would assume all his former workmates now know who he is so when he gets out of jail the authorities will have to set him up with a new identity again.

Re: Jon Venables
I honestly think the MoJ should have kept this to themselves. It makes no difference to the public, and they would have been just as happy living in blissful ignorance. I think it's just picking at a wound for Denise Bulger.
Re: Jon Venables
I agree lou. A "trivial matter" should have been dealt with discreetly. This has just raked up lots of problems regarding keeping his identity a secret, and more importantly has caused Jamie's parents even more angst.

Re: Jon Venables
I don't think it could have been trivial if it's ended up with him being sent back to jail, and all the bother and expense of providing him with a new identity when he gets out. He did break the conditions set for him.
Also, I heard he'd been visiting Liverpool and that was another condition broken. He'd been ordered to stay away from the city where James's family live.
It seems to me that Venables hasn't been taking any of this seriously at all, he's been breaking the rules without giving it a thought. I'm glad he was sent back to jail and I'm glad his new life is now in tatters, even if it does cost the taxpayer money to set him up yet again. Maybe he'll learn he can't just please himself, if he's now lost all the friends he made since he was set free.

Re: Jon Venables
Trouble is, I'm very cynical and don't believe a word of what is in the papers. Because, why suddenly has this all come to light, if people knew this was Venables taking drugs, breaking the law wtc, why didn't they come forward before.
And the papers can pretty much print anything they want, because Venables can't come forward to defend himself, without leaving himself open to identification.
I just think it's a shame it's hit the headlines again, because even though Denise Bulger will never forget, it has to be worse seeing it dragged through the paper all over again.

Re: Jon Venables
Now they're saying he was getting involved with child porn. I don't know if it's true, though it's got to set alarms going that he sexually abused little James when he was just a child himself.
Denise seems to be quite happy that Venables is back in jail. You're right though, Lou, she'll think about her baby boy every single day whether it's in the papers or not. Losing a child is bad enough, losing one in that way is something that would stay with you forever.

Re: Jon Venables
Well Jack Straw said today that it had nothing to do with anyone being murdered or hurt.
I don't know whether he would include mentally hurt in that (ie child porn), but it at least shows that some of the papers have been talking rubbish by saying he's beaten someone up or assaulted someone.

Re: Jon Venables
I'm quite amazed at the number of different stories that have been published. It would have been better if we'd just been given the correct information from the authorities, it would have stopped all this speculation. I'm afraid I'm one of those who don't think Venables should be protected in this way. Perhaps when he was living quietly, but not if he's broken the rules. He's lost the right to anonymity when he does that, I think.

Re: Jon Venables
Maybe they will if it's decided he's guilty. I suppose at the moment whatever it is they still have to investigate, and naming him would mean he'd be found guilty by association, not necessarily because he actually was.
Re: Jon Venables
He'd never get a fair trial if the jury was told his real identity. But after reading about how he's still in danger of being killed by vigilantes, I just can't find it in me to care. At least the other one, Thompson, has kept his head down (as far as we know). If Venables is back in trouble again, he's obviously a wrong 'un and this time there will be nobody saying "but he's only ten".
